A support team is a group of peers who serve to support a leader, and coach him or her in decision-making and professional growth. The three key things a support team should provide are encouragement, feedback, and accountability. CEOs should ask themselves, “Who is the best equipped to offer me encouragement, feedback, and accountability?” Some CEOs might ask for support from a past colleague who knows the environment in which the CEO operates, or they might ask a colleague who works in a different department of the same general industry.
Critically assessing your support team on an annual basis is necessary, because some cases, an Endurance Executive must make changes to their support team in order to always have the best team pushing them to succeed. In assessing your support team, ask yourself the following questions:
- Can you think of a time when a support team could have made the difference in accomplishing a goal you previously have fallen short on?
- Who can be on your support team? Will they be responsible for giving you encouragement, feedback, and holding you accountable?
